Death Valley National Park After El Nino
A beautiful yellow carpet at a glance A glittering
golden tapestry at another Putting a nature lover in the midst of amazement.
Once it seemed lost, lifeless As dreadful as the name Death Valley implies. Scorching dry, All has been evaporated under the brazing sun Leaving only crusts of crystallized sodium chloride on the basin of the lake, Crevices in dehydrated soil. Only
desert plants were scattered here and there Dry and shrunken. All leaving creatures were hidden 'Cause couldn't
withstand the torturing heat.
Now birds are singing Flower blossoms are fluttering Everywhere meadows,
prairies, hills, . . . Hawks are flying high in the sky. It's a whole new world That the weather of a baby
born during Christmas Season* Has brought.
El Nino means a baby born on Christmas Day, that is Jesus
Christ.
Death Valley National Monument is located in eastern California and in western Nevada in part, which was
first set asides in 1933 to preserve the unique desert that includes lowest part in the western hemisphere. After El Nino
brought plenty of rain in early spring of 1998, flowers bloomed everywhere strikingly in the desert, such as desert gold flower,
desert five-spot, etc.
Same phenomenon has occured this year because during winter period, plenty of rain has fallen
on the desert, making possible for all dormant seeds germinate.
